“I was cleaning gutters for 20 Naira” – Footballer, Victor Osimhen reveals

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen has revealed he cleaned gutters and did other menial jobs to survive before venturing into professional football.

The 22-year-old Napoli star shared his grass to grace story while speaking with Head Topics recently.

His words,

Most people are familiar when I say this because they have come through even worse [situations] than mine and where I grew up, nothing is promised there because whatever you want to get, you have to work so hard for it.

“I remember when I was growing up, I was cleaning the gutters for 20 Naira, for my landlord and did some cleaning jobs for my neighbours close to my house, fetch water for 80 Naira, I think.

“I found pleasure in doing these things because I believed when I worked so hard to get this money, it was important for me. I had consciousness on how to spend this money and help my family.

While growing up, my brother was selling newspapers, my sister oranges. I was in the traffic with water and I’d had to chase cars, give them water to get the money. I feel like these struggles helped me in life.

“I am grateful for where I am today because of what I’d been through, it shaped me into the man I am. I am really grateful to God for that.”

Speaking on his journey to stardom, the striker said, “It all started like a dream, a boyhood dream from the slum and I feel like I have achieved this feat, it’s one of my biggest achievements in life.”

Many Nigerians didn’t believe he would win – Do2dtun on Anthony Joshua’s victory over Francis Ngannou

Popular media personality Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, aka Do2tun, has claimed that many Nigerians didn’t believe Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Joshua was going to defeat former Franco-Cameroonian UFC star, Francis Ngannou, in their boxing bout on Friday.

Joshua knocked out the former UFC heavyweight champion in the second round of the bout in Saudi Arabia.

Nigerians thronged to social media to celebrate Joshua’s victory over Ngannou with the Federal Government also sending a congratulatory message to him via social media.

However, reacting via his X handle, Do2tun insisted that most Nigerians didn’t support Joshua initially.

He wrote, “Be honest, so many Nigerians didn’t believe Anthony would win this fight. I did. I said to my friends, ‘Boxing is technical & just cos Francis knocked out Fury who I still think hasn’t fought a good contender doesn’t mean he will beat Anthony.’ We need to do better.”

Sharing a screenshot of his tweet on his Instagram page, Do2tun opined that Anthony Joshua was right not to have mentioned Nigeria in his victory speech where he acknowledged Britain, Cameroon and Saudi Arabia.

Let’s stay one place. He [Anthony Joshua] didn’t shout us out but do we truly deserve it?

“Tonnes even bet against him.. chai Naija for show.”
