‘Release of Tiwa Savage’s s*x tape embarrassing, shameful’ – Top lawyer

Published

on

Festus Ogun, a Human Rights activist and lawyer, says the eventual release of singer Tiwa Savage’s alleged sextape is “distasteful, embarrassing and shameful”.

Recall Savage few weeks ago raised an alarm of someone trying to blackmail her over a short sextape that was made by her boyfriend, Abolo.

On Tuesday night, the video found its way to the cyberspace, causing diverse reactions from the public.

Ogun gave a legal perspective to the issue.

“Seeing Tiwa Savage alleged nude videos fly around is quite depressing. To be clear, sharing and posting nude contents is a ‘criminal offence’ under our extant laws in Nigeria. Section 24 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015 criminalizes leaking s*x tapes and sharing them,” Ogun wrote on his known Twitter handle on Tuesday.

“I do not Tiwa Savage and anyone whatsoever deserve this kind of blackmail. To what end? To embarrass and destroy Tiwa’s career or just to damage her character or person? I find it really distasteful, embarrassing and shameful. Grossly iniquitous!

“Apart from being criminal, it is a gross violation of fundamental rights. The right to dignity of human person and privacy guaranteed under section 34 and 37 of the Constitution have been maliciously violated by whosoever leaked and shared the video. Should Tiwa fold her arms?

“I urge that she sets the machinery of law in motion against whosoever is involved in the dastardly act. All culprits should be arrested and prosecuted accordingly so that we can learn that sharing obscene contents is not only cruel but attracts grievous legal consequences.

This is what Hawa Magaji will do if creating content fails

Magaji recently appeared as a guest on the Rubbin’ Minds show hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, where she spoke on making content.

Magaji highlighted how she always advises her fans to have a backup plan, in case anything goes wrong with the social media applications.

“Everyone who tells me ‘Oh my god, you inspire me. I want to do this’, I say ‘Go to school.’ You don’t necessarily have to learn content creation in school, but go to school and get a degree. If in the worst-case scenario, they say the internet is down in the whole wide world for the next three years, you would still have a way you’re going to eat. You would still have a way to make money and all those things,” she said.

Using herself as an example, she also highlighted the need for influencers and content creators to have their academic degrees and professional certifications, in case one needs to fall back on them.

“I was having this conversation with my niece yesterday and she was like ‘Aunty I think I want to be an influencer,’ and I’m like ‘Guess what? I have my degree. I want to have my professional certification. I have my plan B. So if today they want to pack up all the social media apps, I’d take my CV and start begging ‘Do you want to have me?’ Magaji concluded.
